Lucky Name Picker is a small independent website built around one simple idea: making a choice should take seconds, not minutes of arguing. We build free spinning wheels and random pickers that settle the question for you — who goes first, what’s for dinner, which movie tonight, whose name gets drawn.
Why We Built This
The idea started with a classroom problem. Teachers pick students all day long, and doing it by hand invites the same complaint every time: “You always pick them first.” A visible, spinning wheel removes that argument completely. Nobody blames the wheel.
That same logic turned out to solve a surprising number of everyday deadlocks — families circling a restaurant decision for twenty minutes, teams that need groups assigned without politics, friends who cannot agree on a film. So we kept building. What began as one name picker is now a growing collection of themed wheels, each tuned to a specific kind of decision.
What You’ll Find Here
- Lucky Name Picker — our flagship wheel of names, for classrooms, giveaways, raffles, and team assignments.
- Food, Cuisine, Snack, Dessert and Drink pickers — for the “I don’t know, what do you want?” loop.
- Movie, TV Show, Book Genre and Music Genre pickers — for breaking out of the endless scroll.
- Truth or Dare, Date Ideas and the Yes or No Wheel — for parties, date nights, and quick verdicts.
- The full set lives on our All Wheel Spinners page.
How Our Wheels Actually Work
Every wheel on this site runs entirely in your web browser. When you press spin, your browser generates a pseudo-random number, and the wheel lands where that number points. There is no weighting, no house edge, and no hidden preference for any entry — each item on the wheel has an equal chance on every spin, independent of what came before.
Because the randomization happens locally, the wheel keeps working smoothly even on slow connections, and the result appears instantly rather than waiting on a server round trip.
These tools are built for fun, teaching, and everyday decisions. They are not certified random number generators and should not be used where a legally auditable or cryptographically secure draw is required.
Your Names Never Leave Your Device
This is the part we are most careful about, and the part most people never think to ask.
When you type a list of names into a wheel, that list is handled entirely by your own browser. It is never uploaded to our servers, never written to a database, and never seen by us. Close the tab and it is gone. The only thing our wheel reports back is an anonymous “a spin happened” signal that increments the public counter on the homepage — no names, no entries, nothing tied to you.
That matters for teachers entering a class roster, HR teams running a prize draw, and anyone who would rather not hand a stranger’s website a list of real people’s names. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

How This Site Is Funded
Lucky Name Picker is free for everyone, with no account, no paywall, and no spin limit. Hosting, development, and maintenance are paid for entirely by the advertisements you see on our pages.
We are deliberate about this: ads are placed so they never cover the wheel, block the spin button, or interrupt a result. If an ad placement ever gets in the way of using a tool, tell us and we will move it. We do not accept payment to alter the outcome of any wheel, and we never will — a picker that can be bought is worthless. Read more in our Disclaimer.
How We Build and Maintain the Site
Every tool here is built and maintained in-house rather than embedded from somewhere else. We test each wheel on desktop, tablet, and phone before it goes live, review existing pages as browsers and devices change, and update the written guides on each page when we find something that could be clearer or more useful.
New pickers usually come straight from visitor suggestions. If there is a wheel you wish existed, tell us — a good number of the tools on this site started as an email.
